Students among 17 dead in RSF drone attack in Sudan’s White Nile State

As the civil war in Sudan approaches its third year, the pain experienced by civilians is growing day by day. The Sudanese Doctors Network announced that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked the village of Shukeiri in the White Nile Province with an unmanned aerial vehicle. A secondary school and a health center were hit in this attack; at least 17 people, including female students, teachers and health workers, lost their lives and 10 people were injured. According to Musa Al-Majri, director of Al-Duwaim Hospital, the hospital is the largest medical center closest to the village, and most of the injured who came after the attack are in serious condition. The Sudanese Doctors Network says this attack is a new example of RSF's attacks on civilians. They also draw attention to the attacks on student dormitories, power plants and residential areas in the last two days. They clearly state that this situation is a violation of international humanitarian law. After being removed from Khartoum by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in March 2025, the RSF shifted its operations to Kordofan and al-Fasher in Northern Darfur. Until October 2024, al-Fasher was the army's last stronghold in Darfur. But when the city passed to RSF, mass massacres, rapes, kidnappings and lootings began. After these allegations, the International Criminal Court (ICC) began to investigate war crimes that could have been committed on both sides of the conflict. According to the recent United Nations report, RSF's actions in al-Fasher bear all the signs of the genocide. Unfortunately, the world's attention has recently turned to the growing tensions between Iran-Israel and the USA. While these new conflicts in the Middle East are being talked about, the tragedy in Sudan is not interested in anyone. According to the UN, the war in Sudan has created one of the world's biggest displacement and hunger crises. Thousands of people died, millions of people left their homes. If we look at the data of the World Food Program, about 21.2 million people – 41 percent of the population – are facing severe food shortages. 12 million people have had to leave their homes because of the conflict. What is happening in Sudan is not just a political power struggle between the two sides. The true story of civilians who lost every day, whose schools were hit, and who could not reach the patients. As the world focuses on completely different crises, life slowly fades in the villages of the White Nile, which are buried in silence after the fall.
