Nagorno-Karabakh is a region between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It has been a place of conflict for many years. During the Soviet Union, it was part of Azerbaijan, but most people living there were Armenian. When the Soviet Union ended, fighting began between the two sides. The first war in the 1990s killed about 30,000 people and made nearly one million people leave their homes. After that, Armenian forces controlled the region, but it was still recognized internationally as part of Azerbaijan. In 2020, fighting started again between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Both sides blamed each other. Azerbaijan wanted to take back some land, and Armenia tried to protect it. Missiles and drones were used, and many soldiers and civilians died. Cities such as Stepanakert were attacked, and thousands of people left their homes. Turkey supported Azerbaijan with weapons and drones. Russia supported Armenia and asked for peace. The war caused big destruction and fear in the region. The conflict also worried other countries. Turkey and Russia supported different sides, and people were afraid the fighting could turn into a bigger war. The area is very important because oil and gas pipelines go through nearby regions. After many days of fighting, both countries agreed to stop the war. However, the problem is not completely solved, and peace in Nagorno-Karabakh is still fragile. The world hopes that both countries will find a peaceful solution for the people who live there.
