Pakistan Nears $1.5 Billion Deal to Supply Weapons, Jets to Sudan, Sources Say

İlayda ÇETİN tarafından

According to Reuters, a $1.5 billion arms and military aircraft agreement between Pakistan and the Sudanese army is almost complete. The package includes 10 Karakoram-8 light attack jets, more than 200 reconnaissance and kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles and advanced air defense systems. Former air force marshal Aamir Masood says this agreement has now been concluded. In addition, the package may include Super Mushshak training aircraft and perhaps JF-17 fighter jets produced by Pakistan with China. The Sudanese military argues that these weapons will be used against the United Arab Emirates — that is, against the country that allegedly supports the RSF. The financing of the agreement is not fully clarified, but the sources state that it may have intervened as both a financial and diplomatic tool of Saudi Arabia. It is even reported that Riyadh has discussed another 2-to-4 billion-dollar defense agreement with Pakistan. Masood said the weapons for Sudan could be included in such an agreement. In fact, this development is part of Pakistan's plan to open its defense industry abroad. The country recently made a large $4 billion in arms sale with Libya and sat at the table for military cooperation with Bangladesh. Thanks to these new agreements, the government wants to strengthen the defense sector and recover the economy a little. Pakistan is currently receiving $7 billion in support from the IMF and is trying to ease economic pressure with aid from Gulf countries.
