According to a Euronews report published on April 17, 2026;
Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to commercial vessels along a designated route during the ceasefire between Iran, Israel, and Lebanon. US President Donald Trump, while thanking them for opening the Strait of Hormuz, also stated that the US blockade would continue.
Furthermore, according to a statement made on social media by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, mentioned in the news report, this development is linked to the ceasefire in Lebanon and aims at the controlled resumption of maritime traffic. The passages, previously restricted due to security threats and conflicts, are considered a significant development for international trade. However, the passage of military vessels through the Strait of Hormuz will remain prohibited.
On the other hand, while US President Donald Trump expressed his positive view of Iran's move to open the Strait of Hormuz, he announced that the US blockade would continue "until an agreement with Iran is 100 percent complete." Therefore, it appears that a full agreement has not yet been reached between the parties.
Finally, the report states that oil prices have dropped significantly by more than 10% following Iranian Foreign Minister Arakchi's statements regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
