MISSILE ATTACK FROM YEMEN TO TEL AVIV

Buse KOÇAK tarafından

The recent tensions in the Middle East have once again come to the fore with a new crisis. According to a report by T24 on May 25, 2025, a ballistic missile fired by the Houthis in Yemen caused the temporary suspension of flights at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel. The Israeli military stated that the missile was intercepted by the air defense system, while alarms were reported to have sounded in several cities across the country.

According to the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, on May 4, the Houthis had previously launched a ballistic missile attack on Ben Gurion Airport, which led many international airlines to temporarily suspend flights to Israel. In response to these attacks, Israel launched airstrikes on May 5 targeting the port of Hudaydah and the Bacil cement factory in western Yemen, followed by an airstrike on Sana’a International Airport on May 6.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi announced on May 6 that a ceasefire had been brokered between the United States and the Houthis to halt the attacks in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the Houthis no longer wished to continue fighting and, in return, he would respect this by halting the bombing raids. Israeli officials, speaking to Israel’s state television channel KAN, expressed their surprise at Trump’s statement, which they said caused shock within the Israeli government. The Houthis in Yemen have been carrying out ballistic missile and drone attacks on Israel for the past year and a half, citing the ongoing Israeli assaults on Gaza as the reason for their actions.

In conclusion, the missile attack by the Houthis in Yemen, which disrupted operations at the airport in Tel Aviv, highlights the growing insecurity in the region. This incident has also underscored the potential risks that regional crises may pose to global and civilian spheres.
