Turkish and Iranian Foreign Ministers Hold Talks

Among those Hakan Fidan visited were Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani.  

The Fidan-Arakchi meeting was noteworthy both in terms of timing and the messages conveyed.  

Recent developments in Syria and the South Caucasus, as well as historical processes, had led Turkey and Iran to opposing views in regions where there was regional competition and conflict.  

Turkey supported Iran in the war between Israel and Iran. But I must say that no matter how much support was given, 500 years of regional competition continued to prevail.  

Hakan Fidan told Tehran to change its policy after the fall of the Assad regime. He said that proxy wars should end, but Tehran was not at all pleased with this situation.  

Another issue was the operation of the Zangezur Corridor under US control under the name TRIPP, which caused Iran's reaction and led to differences of opinion between Turkey and Iran.  

The common concern of both countries was Israeli expansionism. Iran argued that Israel was the most important threat to Syria. Fidan pointed to the same issue and argued that Israel was a regional threat.  

Hakan Fidan called on the international community to take action to end the attacks.  

One of the main purposes of the visit was to prepare for the Turkey-Iran High-Level Cooperation Council meeting.
